The student-directed video we watched in class today asserted the idea that the separation between content and form changes everything. In short, their message was: We are the machine. Not only did I find the video entertaining; the speakers convinced me their argument is right. Their rhetorical strategies prove effective.
The rhetorical strategy I admire the most was the contrast between the beginning and end of the video. When the speakers portrayed their content through a pencil-to-paper method, the speakers were forced to erase, scratch out and slowly write their message. When the speakers took their content into word-processing programs and websites we—as the audience—are able to visualize how quickly technology moves words. In this way, the message mirrors the presentation, creating an interesting and visually appealing dynamic between content and form. As I write, edit and post my blog entries, I prove the point the speakers made throughout their video: I’m part of the machine.
In this class I hope to become more creative in my view of rhetoric. I want to become familiar with different mediums and understand how rhetoric shifts when those mediums change.
